Connecting with people through gifting books and spreading the love for reading was the theme of the 9th edition of ‘Gift a book, get a Friend’ event held at Shree Moola Vilasam Govt Model HSS on August 2, 2023.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri R. Giri Sankaran Thampi, Principal, KV Pattom by presenting a set of books to the SMV School library. Smt. Kalpana Chandran, Principal, SMV HSS welcomed the gathering. Shri. S. L. Faisal, Librarian and Coordinator presented the aims, objectives and history of of the programme.
Shri R. Giri Sankaran Thampi, in his address, spoke about the importance of books, reading and connecting people trough sharing and compassion.
Students of KV Pattom gifted books and stationery materials (note books, pens,pencils, instrument boxes, etc) to the newly found friends at SMV HSS. A cake was cut to celebrate the joy of the occasion.
The cultural fiesta followed was filled with wonderful performances and mass participation of students fromboth the partnering schools.
ree Moola Vilasam Government Model Higher Secondary School (popularly known as SMV School) is one among the oldest Schools in Kerala, Established by Travancore Maharaja for English Education. This school was built by Tranvancore Maharaja Sree Swathi Thirunal and is one of the oldest school in Kerala Established in 1836.
Smt Rani Vidhyadharan, Vice Principal, SMV HSS and Smt S. Shyla, Head Mistress, KV Pattom offered felicitations. Smt Aneena A. K., Senior Teacher, SMV HSS proposed vote of thanks.
A guided tour to historical spots in the campus of SMV Govt Model HSS was also organized in connection with ‘Gift a Book, get a Friend’ programme. Temple, weather station, chair of famous poet and littérateur of Malayalam, Mahakavi M. P. Appan, who was also a teacher at the school, an antique school bell, a 150 year old banyan tree and some old school furniture of rare design.
The 9th edition of GAB was historical for both partnering schools which carry great legacies. The event was filled with memorable moments of joy, togetherness and friendship. The connections created will last for many years to come.
